“Every year around this time we winterize our pool,” says General Manager Jacqueline Brooks. “We lower the water levels, and any overage runs down into the catchment basin.” Brooks says the local government and/or the Ministry of Transportation are to blame for water on the road. “The ditch is level with the highway and when the ditches are full, like in this instance, it goes right on to the road,” she said. “I have contacted to the County to see how we can work this out.”

So they dump their chlorinated water just... behind the building?  And it ran down, onto the road, and froze

Drained the pool into the ditch, which overflowed across the road and froze overnight, and then multi-car accidents during the morning commute..

But don’t worry, they’re goin g to see how they can work this out..

Can companies be held liable for running their landscaping sprinklers prior to a freeze? Because they should be.

Welp, General Manager just said on record to the news that it was their water, from their pool, draining from their company, that caused the crashes.. but it’s really the Local Gov’t fault..

If Jim wiped out because Bob’s sprinklers froze the road I’m sure the insurance companies would be very interested in photos/dashcam ..

Hey, I get to tap into some of my former pool manger knowledge from back in my parks and rec days. In my state, swimming pool water is now legally considered waste water, which means is has to be pumped into the city sewer system (where such things exist) . There are some older facilities (and the occasional private backyard pool) that have old drains into open arroyos or other parts of the storm water drainage system from back in the day. It is now highly illegal to discharge a swimming pool into the storm drainage system. They actually went around and welded the valves shut at some of the city pools in Abq to prevent a wayward head guard from ever opening them.

Yeah, I would think if you are not supposed to let ca rwash soap into the storm drain then chlorinated pool water would be a no-no..  The other side of the highway is a wetland too so it’s not like they don’t understand where the water goes.
